“Everybody can do this work” – A Career Conversation with Kamal Kapadia

In this video, Kamal Kapadia shares about her mission to get 100 million people working directly on climate in this decade. Kamal is Co-Founder and Chief Learning Officer at Terra.do, a green skilling platform that offers courses to help people transition their careers to work on climate. Speaking with Center for Climate Justice Program Manager Remy Franklin, Kamal discusses the two ingredients anyone needs to do climate work and shares her advice for graduating students seeking a climate justice career.

If you’re interested in a career similar to Kamal’s, here’s a word of advice from her interview:

“I was taught to think this way in grad school, that somehow the experts are going to save us…. And I have completely radically shifted my thinking now. I think everybody can do this work.

We’ve graduated 3,000 people from every single professional background you can imagine: artists, farmers, software engineers, filmmakers…. You don’t have to work for a so-called climate organization or environmental organization in order to do this work. In fact, if you work in an organization or a company that isn’t doing this work, it’s all the more important that you have some of the skill and training to bring it into that space.”

Our Climate Justice Career Interview series helps students connect climate justice to their field of study by showcasing professionals working on equitable climate solutions across industries.
