“Have a big vision and be able to get into the weeds” – A Career Conversation with Adrienne Bloch

In this video, Adrienne Bloch discusses her work as an attorney managing the Fossil Fuels Program at the environmental law firm Earthjustice. Speaking with Center for Climate Justice Program Manager Remy Franklin, Adrienne discusses why she became a lawyer, the importance of cross-disciplinary collaboration in climate justice organizing, and how her team helped build community power to challenge a petrochemical complex in Louisiana.

If you’re interested in a career similar to Adrienne’s, here’s a word of advice from her interview:

“I would say if you’re interested in going to law school, you should do it. I know that there are a lot of lawyers who are discouraging… but I would say that if that is interesting to you, then you should just do it.

One of the things I really love about the law is being able to have a big vision and then also to be able to get into the weeds. I think it can be really exciting for that reason.

Stay rooted and grounded in yourself, in your values, in your heart, and in the place that you are. And really be respectful and curious in all the work that you do. Realize that it’s the people who live in a place who know that place and who have probably the wisest vision for that place.”
